Movies that Grant Wishes
by Carl J. Schroeder © 2006 Wishing for better movies? MysticalMovieGuide.com recommends three recent films that grant wishes, from three different genres to satisfy every audience: all-star Hollywood entertainment, independent art film, and high-quality documentary. These overlooked masterpieces are available on DVD, you just have to know to ask for them.
"Interstate 60" (2002) proposes that all cultures have wish-granting supernatural beings, like genies and fairies. But because the United States is a younger nation, most have people never heard of O. W. (One Wish) Grant. Half-breed offspring of an immigrant leprechaun and a Cheyenne maiden, he hitchhikes the astral Inter-state 60 looking to mess with people's heads. Be careful what you wish for! Grant takes a shine to an art student who needs to say no to law school and yes to his destined true love and creativity. This fantastically entertaining and wise road-trip film is from the writer of "Back to the Future", and packed with stars including Gary Oldman and Christopher Lloyd as philosophical leprechauns. The theatre industry decided for you that this wasn't commercial enough, so seek the treasure on DVD. If you like indie/art film quality, next check out "The Door" (2005). Director Bruce Wood is a museum-class artist and life-long lucid dreamer whose feature films express metaphysical beliefs. The eponymous door is the entrance to dreamland, where Bruce's spirit guides suggested the plot for this film. "The Door" is about a deva who thinks he's human, with a habit of granting wishes to dreamers that later backfire because, after all, it was only a dream. Bruce says the movie is opening more people to talk about dreams, so he'll advertise in New Age magazines. Filmed by a Canadian man whose grandmother taught him to believe, shamans and artists discuss the nature spirits that many cultures have said for centuries are our parallel dimensional cousins. Are the fairy folk of today known better as ETs? Will nature spirits help us save Mother Earth? Or do these tricksters and illusionists just want to be left alone? Find the DVD and decide for yourself. These movies are good enough to be real, so enjoy! www.MysticalMovieGuide.com is your guide to films that the consensus reality didn't think you'd be interested in... but you are.
